WHAT I’VE WATCHED

Fleabag (Season 2)

  • Carrier: Amazon Prime

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 100% (for both seasons)

Yes yes. I know this is in no particular order, but the second season of Fleabag was my favorite thing I watched. I’ve rewatched it and been moved each time. It’s raunchy, hilarious, heartbreaking, and again, not family friendly.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge's BAFTA-winning comedy is back. " Watch the new season of Fleabag now exclusively with your Prime membership. http://bit.ly/PrimeVideoFleabag " SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/PrimeVideoSubscribe About Fleabag: Fleabag is a hilarious and poignant window into the mind of a dry-witted, sexual, angry, grief-riddled woman, as she hurls herself at modern living in London.

Modern Love

Specifically Episode 3, “Take me as I am, Whoever I am.”

  • Carrier: Amazon Prime

  • Family Friendly: For the most part. Maybe some language.

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 74%

Each episode is different and based on essays from the well known New York Times column. Each 30 minute episode is different, featuring a new cast and storyline. While they’re all enjoyable and you’ll wipe away happy tears at some point during each episode, the one that sticks with you the most is Episode 3. I wont give anything away, but it has practical takeaways and Anne Hathaway is brilliant in it.

Chernobyl

  • Carrier: HBO

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 96%

It’s an intense watch. Five episodes and each one deserving full attention, even when it’s hard to watch. Be prepared for striking visual effects, specifically when it comes to radiation poisoning.

On April 26, 1986, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, Soviet Union suffered a massive explosion that released radioactive material across Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and as far as Scandinavia and western Europe. Chernobyl dramatizes the story of the 1986 accident, one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history, and the sacrifices made to save Europe from the unimaginable disaster.

YOU Season 2

  • Carrier: Netflix

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 93%

The first season was in my 2018 best of list. Obsessive behavior meets delusion. It’s just soap opera-y enough to keep you hooked and relevant enough to keep you interested in the plot.

Starting fresh is hard to do when your past is close behind. YOU S2 comes to Netflix on December 26th. Euphoria

  • Carrier: HBO

  • Family Friendly: Absolutely Not

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 82%

Very explicit. I cannot stress this enough. This has OG HBO vibes all over it. I found it incredibly thought provoking to have the perspective of suburban teenage life and how depression/anxiety complicate it. Again, not for the faint of heart.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Season 3)

  • Carrier: Amazon Prime

  • Family Friendly: Ehhhh, I’m torn. I’m going to say “no” for language but if I had teens, I would be ok watching with them.

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 83%

The new season dropped just before Christmas and it’s just as adorable. The dialogue is witty and moves faster this season, so this is something to watch and listen to. If you pay attention to something else, you’ll miss more than a few lines. While this season offers some sobering moments, the humor is still there to balance it out.

Succession (Season 2)

  • Carrier: HBO

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 96%

When someone says “they can’t get into Succession,” all I can say is simply try again. This is easily within my top 5 shows and season 2 was incredible. The finale had us screaming and jumping up in the same way when Danenerys came flying in on a dragon a couple years ago in Game of Thrones. Again, this is a show you must pay attention to.

Russian Doll

  • Carrier: Netflix

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 97%

When They See Us

  • Carrier: Netflix

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 96%

It’s a hard watch. There’s no way around watching it without tears and anger at the injustice of it all but it’s an important one.

The Crown (Season 3)

  • Carrier: Netflix

  • Family Friendly: Yes

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 90%

It’s back. New cast, new struggles and just as enjoyable. Also, Olivia Colman.

Barry (Season 2)

  • Carrier: HBO

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 100%

So funny. So dark. I love it.

Shrill

  • Carrier: Hulu

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 92%

Six episodes, all 30 minutes long. It’s easy to watch in one go. It’s funny, heartbreaking, and relevant all at the same time. It’s worth your time.

Mindhunter (Season 2)

  • Carrier: Netflix

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 98%

Less serial killers and more psychology. I absolutely love this show. If you’re someone put off by gore and violence, rethink this one. Although the topics are rough, the material isn’t graphic.

Catastrophe (Season 4)

  • Carrier: Amazon Prime

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 97%

It’s a hilarious, raunchy take on marriage, love, and our life choices in general.

HONORABLE MENTION

Los Espookys

  • Carrier: HBO

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 100%

Mike Birbiglia: The New One

  • Carrier: Netflix

  • Family Friendly: Probably.

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 81%

Already a Birbiglia fan, I loved this special focusing on the highs and lows of becoming a parent and the decision to start a family.

Unbelievable

  • Carrier: Netflix

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 97%

Incredibly well done miniseries about a true story. There are graphic depictions of rape and assault. Will have you all kinds of angry throughout the season so it’s a great one to watch while doing dishes or laundry to channel that anger into productivity.

Pen15

  • Carrier: Hulu

  • Family Friendly: No

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 93%

Hilarious look at what middle school was like around 2000.

I’VE HEARD GREAT THINGS BUT HAVEN’T SEEN

Watchmen

  • Carrier: HBO

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 96%

The Boys

  • Carrier: Amazon Prime

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 84%

What We Do In The Shadows

  • Carrier: FX

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 94%

Let it be known that I’ve at least seen the movie and it’s hilarious.
